Grid Output Options Dialog

Used to change grid output format.

Opens when clicking on the Edit Grid Labels button in the Edit Grid dialog.

The settings displayed in the Grid Output Options dialog depend on the Output Type chosen:

  • X-Y Grid Reference

  • UTM Style Coordinates

  • DDD°MM'SS" Coordinates

SettingDescription
Output Type

Specifies the output type of the grid reference.

  • X-Y Grid Reference — generates grid reference based on alpha-numeric labels.

  • UTM Style Coordinates — calculates the location of the scanned text according to known values for the lower left and upper right corners, entered as XY coordinates. Each field accepts an integer of up to 10 digits.

  • DDD°MM'SS" Coordinates — calculates the location of the scanned text according to known values for the lower left and upper right corners, entered as northing and easting coordinates.

Note: Upper right values must be greater than lower left.

No. of cols/rows

Defines the number of divisions in the grid.

Start string

Defines the starting character or number used to label the columns and rows.

  • If an alphabetical character is used, labels increase in a logical manner from A to Z. If more labels are required, they continue as AA to AZ then BA to BZ, etc. Case is retained for each individual character in the string. If a start string of Cd is entered, the labels increase from Cd to Cz then Da to Dz, etc.

  • If a number is used, labels increase up to 9999.

Direction

Defines which direction row labels increase. Up causes the start row label to be at the bottom of the table and increase upwards. Down performs the opposite.

Separation Char

Places the specified character between column and row values in the final grid references.

If off, row and column values are not separated.

Ref. Order

Specifies the order of rows, columns, and/or titles. For example, if Row-Col is chosen, the final grid references output is row value first followed by column.

Skip I & O label characters

Specifies not to use I and O characters for the row and column labels in the output index as they can be confused with 1 and 0.

Group Like Locations

Places similar locations in groups.

Output Prefix/Suffix

Places a string before (prefix) or after (suffix) the output string. Tabs are supported and are represented by \t.

For example:

Output = A4

Prefix = Area\t

Suffix = \tPage 7

Resultant Output = Area A4 Page 7.

Region Type

This option allows each location to be assigned to an area, with the region name being included in grid reference. An example for the use of this option would be grouping locations into cities, localities, suburbs. A common occurrence is that the same street name is used in multiple cities. This allows the reference to identify which city the street belongs to.

There are several ways a location can be assigned to a region. The method is chosen by the Region Type option button. There are two options for the "Region Type":

  • "Inside Tagged Shape: This method allows the user to create shape or complex shape element to denote the border of the region. The shape needs to have "Tag Data" associated with it to denote it is a region boundary and the name of the region as it will appear in the output.

Note: It is not possible to use grouped hole elements as boundaries.

  • The "Tag Name" field is the name of the tag that will be searched for. The name of the tag set is not important. The boundary element may be in the master file or reference files and the tags do not need to be visible.

Tag Name

Enter a name for the tag.

Lower Left Coords

For UTM Style Coordinates :

  • X: Sets the lower left UTM coordinate.

  • Y: Sets the lower left UTM coordinate.

For "DDD°MM'SS" Style Coordinates :

  • Sets the lower left DDD°MM'SS" coordinates and the N-S-E-W directions.

Upper Right Coords

For UTM Style Coordinates :

  • X: Sets the upper right UTM coordinate.

  • Y: Sets the upper right UTM coordinate.

For "DDD°MM'SS" Style Coordinates :

  • Sets the upper right DDD°MM'SS" coordinates and the N-S-E-W directions.

OK

Closes the dialog and applies the output options.

Cancel

Closes the dialog without applying changes.
